History of the Mendenhall Surname in England

James Mendenhall (b.1751) was the first in England to use this surname. This site lists his MILDENHALL ancestors and his MENDENHALL descendants. Mildenhall (pronounced Minal) is a village in Wiltshire and its Anglo-Saxon name means a nook or corner of land that was either mild or belonged to a person called Mild (due to their temperament). There are two ongoing branches of the family tree that retain the Mendenhall surname. They are clustered around the English south coast towns of Weymouth and Hastings.
